HISTORYThis soldier was A. Stanford. He is wearing the uniform of the Hastings Battery which was formed to protect the Western Port at the time of the Boer War. This photograph is part of the Dulcie Morton Collection. The other young man is not identified.
DESCRIPTIONThis is a portrait of two men. The younger man on the left is standing with his right hand resting on a small stone embossed pillar. He is wearing dark trousers, a light coloured waistcoat and jacket, white shirt and a dark coloured tie. He has a fob chain on his waistcoat and a badge on his tie. His neatly combed hair is parted on the left-hand side. The man sitting on a stool beside him is dressed in military uniform. His trousers have a dark coloured stripe down the side. He has a wide dark coloured belt over his jacket and his cap is tilted to one side. He has a moustache. Neither men are smiling.
