HISTORY

The Armstrong Gun was one of four guns brought to the Mornington Peninsula because of a perceived Russian threat to ‘take Melbourne by landing a force via the Western Port”. The gun was returned to Hastings, Christmas 1987. A $5,000.00 grant for restoration of the gun and carriage was given in 1988 from BHP and Esso. These photos were donated by Doug Thompson and Harry Cole.

DESCRIPTION

A series of 39 colour photographs which depict the restoration of the Armstrong Gun and carriage during 1988 through to 1991. These photos show various stages of the restoration eg. gun, wheels and carriage.
