HISTORY

Jock Marshall worked for Bert Taylor in Hastings post war. He had a workshop at the back of the house, then belonging to Alf Wheatly and across the lane from Spence’s Drapery. In 1949 Jock built his Garage opposite the greengrocer. In the mid 1950s he sold to the ES & A Bank, which is now the ANZ. Jock married Mary Smith of Stony Point.

DESCRIPTION

This image shows a square building with a high open door on the left-hand side. A large glass shop-front window and a small doorway are on the right-hand side of the building. Shelving can be seen behind the glass. The back of a car can be seen inside the building. Three petrol bowsers are at the front of the building on the right-hand side. Several cars are parked at the front and side of the building. A street is in the foreground . Part of a street can be seen on the far right-hand side with other buildings and tall trees. Signage across the front of the building reads as follows: “Esso Servicenter J. Marshall Motors Licensed Vehicle Tester”. The utility parked at the front of the building has ‘National Tyre Service’ printed on the side.
