HISTORYReg Peterson built this garage at Stony Point in 1924 on the reserve west of Stony Point Railway station. Reg charged 2/6d a day to look after cars for ferry passengers in the garage. He built his house next door to the garage in 1928. This photograph comes from the Arthur Peterson Collection.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a small racing car parked in front of a garage. A woman is behind the wheel and a small boy is sitting next to her. Another boy is standing behind them. The car is parked in front of a large galvanized iron shed with the following signs painted on it: ‘R Peterson’s Motor Garage. Castrol Wakefield Motor Oil British Owned Motorists up and garage here via boat to Cowes’. A petrol bowser is in front of the garage on the far right-hand side and a ladder can be seen behind the bowser leaning against the garage. Branches of a large tree can be seen on the far left-hand side.
