HISTORYThis gathering was to commemorate the planting of the Perrott Tree one hundred years ago on the Hastings foreshore, in front of the Shire buildings. It was planted in 1902 by Alice Maud Mary Perrott of Hastings. Local residents were encouraged to plant trees that year to mark the coronation of Edward VII. The Marker was placed in 1985 by her grandson, Albert E. Perrott. The names of the people are as follows: left to right: Valda Cole, Edith Torokfalvy, Bill Betts, Barbara Betts, Harry Cole, Edwin Mawson (partly obscured), Cathy Clifford (in red), Geoff and Beryl Stockton (at back), David Mason (striped top), Beverley Mason, Rosalind Hyson, Bill Jones, Faye Perrott, Irene Dicker, Iain Perrott, Maralyn Kaye, Shirley Davies, 6 year old April Loxton, Jamie Mason (dark hair close to tree), Denis Prosser, Nathan Black, Glen McClelland, Sandra Loxton, Charles Davies (at back), Brian McClelland (yellow shirt), Ross McClelland, Max Perrott (obscured), Kate O’Connor (child in white top), Maria Perrott, Philip Perrott and David Freeman.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a large group of people standing under a very large tree, posing for a photo. Part of six very large branches can be seen extending out from the trunk of the tree. There are thirty-one adults and two children. A Marker is on the ground behind the little girl. A concrete path and small shrubs are in the foreground and part of an office building can be seen in the background.
