HISTORYThis man is Charles Henry Hodgins. He was born on 13 March, 1908 in Western Australia, just prior to his parents return to Hastings. He later became very active in the local community, including involvement in the church, scouts and school. He won his Tenderfoot in Scouts on 1 March, 1924 and was appointed Assistant Scoutmaster to 1st Hastings Holy Trinity Troop in 1936 and then Scoutmaster until he enlisted for War Service. He retired from the Scouting movement after more than 50 years involvement. He served in the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II from 1939 to 1944, working with the flying boat, the Catalina. After World War II he was employed at HMAS Cerberus, the Flinders Naval Depot. He was involved as a representative of the Synod, a church warden and vestryman for many years at Holy Trinity, Hastings (Anglican). Charles Hodgins made a wonderful contribution to the Hastings community over many years. He died 21 October, 1995.
