HISTORYThese shells were used in the 40 pounder Hastings Battery Armstrong Gun. They were rescued from Long Island in the Western Port by a group of Hastings Museum volunteers. The names of some of the men that went on this shell recovery trip are as follows: Bruce Alderson, Doug Thompson, Matt Hurley RAN, Peter Ainsworth, Lionel Elmore, Geoff Allman, Steven Collins (Petty Officer RAN), Keith Cole, David Mason, Andrew Allman, Norm Francis, Gaza Shaw. Those missing from the photo are: John Woolley, Bill Patience, Edwin Mawson and Tim Long.
DESCRIPTIONThis group of images shows a motor boat tied up to a jetty. There are men in the boat and standing on the jetty beside the boat. Old military shells are on the floor of the boat. Another image shows a man sitting in a shed behind an old motor, reading a book. It also shows photos of the shells laid out on grass. There are approximately fifteen shells.
