HISTORYThis is the Armstrong 40 lb gun No. 272 which belonged to the Hastings Battery of the Victorian Rangers. The gun was returned to Hastings from Colac and this photograph shows the gun being unloaded at 9.30 am on Christmas Eve 1998, at the Hastings Shire depot for safe keeping until a suitable restoration site is found. The gun is now on display at the Hastings-Western Port Museum.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a gun barrel being lifted in the air by a crane. The crane has ‘Tolson’s’ written along the side and ‘Tolson’s Mobile Cranes’ is printed on the truck. A large galvanised iron shed is on the right-hand side of the image. A man can be seen bending down in front of the partly opened door.
