HISTORY

The man is this image is Gilbert Perriam. He was a fisherman at Hastings for over sixty years and was the first to net in Western Port Bay commercially. He was born in Exmouth, England in 1840 and migrated to Australia in 1852. The woman in the photograph is Mrs Gavin. The photograph comes from the Vin Perriam Collection.

DESCRIPTION

This image is a studio portrait of a man and a woman. The man is sitting on a cane chair with his arms resting on the arms of the chair. He is wearing a three piece suit, white shirt and bow tie. He has a large moustache and receding hair. The woman is standing to his right behind a small table. A small vase of flowers is on the table. She is wearing a long-sleeved black dress with a lace insert at the neck. A brooch is pinned at the neckline. Her fair hair is pulled upwards and pinned at the top. A small potted palm tree is in the foreground on the right-hand side.
