HISTORYGramophone originally belonged to Mrs. Emily Norton, a long term resident on the Mornington Peninsula. It was given to Emily as a present from her parents, brothers and sisters on a return trip to England in 1930. Subsequently given to Ellen Rayment Briggs by Emily when she and her family stayed with the Norton family.
DESCRIPTIONGramophone contained in a rectangular shaped black box covered in leatherette material. When opened the gramophone contains a turntable covered in brown velvet and a chrome plated arm, both set in a wooden platform. There are 4 tin boxes of needles and 7 78 rpm vinyl records in their paper slip covers. There is a circular chrome plated container situated in the top right hand side of the gramophone which is used for holding spent needles.
