HISTORY

This certificate was issued to Edward Bowling Sainty as confirmation of his qualification as a master seaman of 31 years’ service with the British Merchant Service. According to The Hastings Fishermen, Bruce Bennet, 2004, p. 12, Edward Sainty is listed in Bailliere’s Victorian Directory of 1869 as a Hastings fisherman, and he bought a block of land in the Old Tyabb township

DESCRIPTION

A Master's Certificate of Service, no. 46.373, issued to Edward Bowling Sainty, born 23 Dec. 1807, for service in the British Merchant Service. The certificate was issued by the Registrar General of Seamen, London, on 8th January 1851.
