HISTORYClive Francis Duffield was born 29/10/1918 and lived with his family at Hillside in Bittern, Victoria. He enlisted in the 2/22 Aust. Inf. Bn A.I.F. on 28/2/1941 and left with his battalion for Rabaul in New Guinea in April 1941. He was listed as missing, presumed dead, on 4/2/1942
DESCRIPTIONFirst piece is a photocopy of a telegram sent from Bonegilla in Victoria by Clive Duffield to Mrs A. Duffield of Hillside, Bittern. Datestamped 16 Apr 41. Text reads “Marching out tomorrow will write love Clive” Second and third pieces are photocopies of letters sent by Clive Duffield to his family from Rabaul in New Guinea on 29/4/1941 and 10/1/1942, describing general life and conditions. Fourth piece is a photocopy of a telegram sent to Mr. F.H. Duffield by the Minister for the Army announcing that Clive Duffield was missing, presumed dead. Top right hand corner with the date has been torn away. Fifth piece is a photocopy of the Certificate of Death on War Service for Clive Duffield, dated 31st May 1946
