HISTORYThe Knox General Store was built about 1929 at the corner of Pike Street and Salmon Street, Hastings by Herb Knox. They sold groceries, hay and corn and there was a shed at the back which held chook food, oats, hay etc. They brought in lots of toys, china etc from Japan. They had a State Savings Bank in the store. This photograph comes from the Kent Collection.
DESCRIPTIONThis image show a weatherboard building with a large signed on the verandah roof which reads, ‘H.L. Knox General Store’. The verandah has two posts on the footpath and a door in the centre with large windows on either side. A small door is along the left-hand side of the building. Two people are standing at the front door and a small girl is standing on the footpath.
