HISTORYThe Bay View Hotel was built in or before 1867 by J.C. King as a licenced hotel, general store and post office. Henry Peddle was the licensee in 1867. It was also a coach stop. The store is the shingle roof building and the stables are behind that. The original photographs were taken from the Albie Smith Collection and the Babington Collection. These photographs were photographed/copied by Dr Bruce Bennett for the purpose of research or publication.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a coach and four houses standing in the street. At least six people can be seen sitting on the coach and four men are standing on the footpath, looking on. Three buildings can be seen behind the coach. The building on the right has ’Bay View Hotel’ in large letters across the front. Verandah posts can be seen at the front and along the side of the hotel. A small sign which reads ‘Post Office’ can be seen on the verandah roof. A picket fence runs across the front with a light pole on the corner post. Tall trees can be seen behind the buildings and a wide gravel street is in the foreground.
