HISTORYThe Hastings Bush Nursing Hospital was officially opened on 17 July, 1930 by Sir James Barrett who was the founder and chairman of the Victorian Bush Nursing Association. The hospital opened with five beds for patients, a sitting room and a bedroom and a bedroom for the sole member of the nursing staff. Printed on the back of the postcard is: ‘Post Card A Real Photograph Produced in Australia’. Also written in black biro is ‘Jean Peters’.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows the front and side view of a building with the sign ‘Hastings District Bush Nursing Hospital’ in the grounds on the right-hand side of the image. The building is brick construction with an iron roof. A two post skillion is over the large double doors at the front of the building. Sets of windows are on the right-hand side at the front and down the side. A dark coloured motor car and part of another car are parked in front of the building. There is a large lawn with shrubs at the front and side, a concrete footlpath and a lawned footpath. A mail box is on the footpath in the foreground on the right-hand side. The tops of large trees are behind the building. The following is printed across the bottom: “The Rose Series P. 13941 (copyright) Bush Nursing Hospital, Hastings, Vic.”. A round piece is torn away at the centre top of the postcard and there are scratches across the top.
