HISTORYThis is the wedding party for William Crawford Smith and Ethel May Wheatley. They were married in 1905 at East Prahran. William was born in Carlton in 1878 the son of Alfred Smith and Annie Crawford. Ethel was born in 1883 and died in 1969. William and Ethel had a son, William Harold (1906-1976). This photo comes from the Gayne Dawson Collection and was photographed/copied by Dr Bruce Bennett for the purpose of research or publication.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a wedding party of the bride and groom and their two attendants. The bride is sitting on the right and is holding a large bouquet of flowers on her lap. Her dark coloured hair is swept up high underneath a veil. Her dress has a high neck, long puffed sleeves and the long skirt has two rows of pleats around the bottom. Her bridesmaid, sitting beside her, is wearing a similar dress and has a dark coloured belt around her waist. She is wearing a large, dark coloured hat on the back of her head. The two men, standing behind the chairs, are wearing dark coloured three piece suits, white shirts, white handkerchiefs in their coat pockets and a flower in their coat lapel. They both have large moustaches.
