HISTORYWritten on the back of the sympathy card: “Augustus and Annie Haebich settled at “Stanton” Bittern early in the nineteen hundreds. He was a butcher who travelled the district with horse and cart, selling his meat. To make ends meet Annie ran a boarding house in the large dwelling. Like most German immigrants Augustus ran the farm and later [illegible] with many hand made implements the [illegible] stables for his horses (he owned a handsome big black stallion) a blacksmith shop, dairy, meat cooling house, a bacon smoking and curing shed and even a cobbling shed to be self sufficient. In 1960 Annie (Gran to all) eventually moved into the [illegible] and the farm was taken over by her granddaughter Dorothy Turner and grandson Ray Haebich. Much respected Annie lived to 104 years of age”
