HISTORY

Augustus and Annie Haebich migrated from Germany and settled at Stanton Farm, Bittern, early in the 2oth century. Augustus was a butcher who travelled the district with horse and cart, selling his meat. Annie ran a boarding house in the large dwelling and Augustus ran the farm, building stables, a blacksmith shop, dairy, meat cooling house, a bacon smoking and curing shed and even a cobbling shed to be self sufficient. On the back of the image is handwritten “Gate into “Stanton” Bittern Haebich Farm” “Donated by Merle Haebich”
