DESCRIPTIONThis is an oval portrait of a beautifully dressed man and woman, posing for a photograph. They are both turned slightly to the side. The man is sitting in a wooden arm chair and is dressed in evening clothes. He has a watch and chain attached to his waistcoat. He has a bald head and a grey moustache. The young woman is standing behind the chair and her left hand is resting on the man’s arm. Her dress has elaborate pin tucks and frills. She has pearls above her very high neckline and a spray of silk flowers on the left-hand side of the bodice. He hair is piled high with a large white bow at the top and at the back. Written on the bottom of the mounting in silver ink is: “The Burlington Studios 294 Bourke St. Melbourne”.
