HISTORY

This photograph of Rosina and John Barclay was taken on their 50th Wedding Anniversary on 22/03/1931. John Barclay was born on 11/09/1854 at Cheltenham, Victoria. He married Rosina Grayden on 22/03/1881. John died on 24/07/1948 and was buried at Hastings with his wife. John was the son of James Barclay and Mary Fidler and the older brother of murdered Jim Barclay. Written on the back of the mounting in black ink is: “Mum & Dad taken on their Golden Wedding day March 22nd 1931”.

DESCRIPTION

This portrait shows an elderly man sitting on a dining-room chair and a woman standing beside him, her right arm resting on the chair, posing for a professional photograph. The woman is wearing a knee-length, long sleeved dress with a belt at the waist. She has a string of pears tied around her neck. The man is dressed in a three-piece suit, white shirt and tie. Part of a weatherboard house and trees and shrubs can be seen behind them. The photographers details are printed on the mounting.
