HISTORYThis early photo shows Hastings Pier, fishing boats, fishing shed and the township of Hastings. On the right-hand side of the photograph is the double story hotel “The Royal” later the “Western Port”. This jetty was constructed in 1864 for £590 by Goul contractors. Another similar photograph appears at P84. This photograph comes from the Cyril Ward Collection.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a jetty in a large expanse of water with fishing boats along both sides and a township in the background. Shops and houses can be seen and a line of large trees are behind the buildings. There is a fishing shed on the jetty and fishing nets are handing over the rails of the jetty. Men can be seen along the jetty and in the boats. The image is covered in crease marks.
