HISTORYThis is the Armstrong Gun which is on display in the Hastings-Western Port Museum. It was one of the 56 entries in the street parade at the Western Port Festival at Hastings. This gun was one of four, 40 pound guns brought to Hastings c. 1890 because of a perceived Russian threat to “take Melbourne by landing a force via the Western Port”. These photographs were donated by Doug Thompson.
DESCRIPTIONThis series of images shows a gun on a gun carriage, sitting on the back of a red and white truck and/or tractor and trailer. Other vintage motor cars, flags and people can be seen. The sign on the front of the truck reads: “Western Port from 1798”.
