HISTORYThis young woman is Dorothy Pearl De La Haye (21/03/1908 - 12/06/1997). The boat belonged to George De La Haye, Dorothy’s stepfather and uncle. Dorothy’s parents, Charles Alexandre Jr. and Sarah Jane (nee Wright) De La Haye farmed on French Island from 1902 to 1908 when they moved to Hastings. They had a small orchard of apples and plums on Cemetery Road, Hastings. This photograph comes from the John Mirabella Collection. The photograph was taken at Cemetery Beach, Hastings.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a woman standing on the top of a wooden fishing boat smiling for the camera. Her left hand is resting on a pole. She is dressed in a knee-length, long-sleeved dress. The boat is on dry land with grass around it.
