HISTORYThis is a photograph of a wood engraving of the Hastings foreshore in 1866. The engraver was Walter Hart and the artist was Alfred Clint. The photograph is the home page of the Multimedia Catalogue in the State Library of Victoria. It was purchased by the Hastings-Western Port Historical Society. Library Record Number: 1125017. Assession Number: IAN23/02/66/5.
DESCRIPTIONAt the centre of this image is a bullock team, cart and a man with a whip. A timber house with a four post verandah is on the left and many houses can be seen behind the trees on the right hand side. Several tall trees line the rough road and water, boats and islands are in the background. A jetty juts out into the water in front of the township. Printed across the bottom of the photograph is: “HASTINGS, WESTERN PORT BAY.”.
