HISTORYThis grand gathering is for the opening of the first Commonwealth Parliament of Australia in Melbourne in 1901. HRHs the Duke of Cornwall and York presided at the opening. Library Record Number: 976705. Accession Number: H26162.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a very large assembly of people, all standing, inside a magnificent hall. The building is ornately decorated and large garlands hang from side to side. The people are ‘packed’ into the building on two levels. An official party of two men and two women are standing on a small dais in front of padded chairs.
