HISTORYA local historian, Valda Cole, placed this marker in 1985 to mark the Hastings district first settler. This is one of several markers placed by the Hastings Historical Society.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a metal plaque attached to stone. The plaque reads: “Shire of Hastings Historical Society Marker No. 1 Martha Jane King, 1790 - 1860 This district’s first settler held the 15,000 acre cattle station ‘BUNGUYAN’ under lease from the Colonial Government from 1845 to 1859. Her homestead, at the junction of bush tracks and adjacent to fresh water, was on the hill to the north east of here. Marker placed in 1985 by Valda Cole, Local Historian.
