HISTORYThis Marker was placed by George Benton in 1984 as a memorial to his uncle, Ernest Benton of Tyabb. Ernest was a member of the 6th Battery, A.F.A. He sustained fatal injuries in 1905 when releasing a horse that had been tied to a guy rope on a flagpole at the Battery Gun Shed on the Hastings foreshore.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a metal plaque attached to stone. The plaque reads: “Shire of Hastings Historical Society Marker No. 3 Memorial to Ernest Benton of Tyabb, and a member of 6th Battery, A.F.A., who sustained fatal injuries in 1905 when releasing a horse tied to a guy rope of this flagpole then on Hastings foreshore at the Battery Gun Shed. Placed in 1984 by his nephew, George Benton.”
