HISTORY

This marker was placed by Eileen Maslen to mark the Union Church and School in the original town of Somerville which was built be settlers in 1864.

DESCRIPTION

This image shows a metal plaque attached to stone. The plaque reads: “Shire of Hastings Historical Society Marker No. 4 The Union Church and School built by settlers in 1864 was located here in the original town of Somerville on one acre of land purchased as a gift by Alfred Jones, James Clarke and James Grant. Marker placed in 1985 by Eileen Maslen, present owner of Grant’s 1859 residence”.
