HISTORY

Mounted Trooper, James Watt, was the first Police Officer stationed at Hastings. He arrived in Hastings in 1898. He was born in 1864 and died in 1932. Written on the back of the photograph is: “Mounted Trooper James Watt First Police Officer at Hastings 1898”.

DESCRIPTION

This image shows a side-on view of a trooper on a horse. Trees and bushes are in the background. The trooper is dressed in a dark coloured coat, light coloured jodhpurs and a tall helmet. He has a very large moustache. Printed across the bottom of the photograph is: “Mtd. Trooper James Watt 1905”.
