HISTORYThis 100 metre high concrete, brick lined chimney stack is being toppled by explosives during demolition of the BP Western Port Refinery’s oil processing unit at Crib Point. After detonation of the charges, the stack dropped vertically for about 30 metres, then toppled exactly on the line calculated by the demolishers. It was a spectacular event for Crib Point. This photograph comes from the Arthur Woodley Collection.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows an industrial site with a tall chimney leaning to the left. A large area is covered with thick smoke. Large grey buildings are in the background. Pipes and tanks are on either side of the tower. A street is in the foreground. Pipes are lying in the grass. People can be seen standing on the road watching the demolition.
