HISTORYThese are the delivery trucks for Perrott & Co Butchers. The van on the left could be a Chevrolet. Frederick ‘George’ Perrott established a butchery business after killing a few of his own sheep for his family’s own consumption. He started slaughtering for his neighbours in the Bittern to Somerville area about 1870. He took over the Hastings butchery in 1883. The Perrott Family had butchers shops in both Hastings and Crib Point. This photograph comes from the Sheila Gardiner Collection.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows two vans parked facing each other. They have ‘Perrott & Co Butchers’ painted in white on their vans. Both vehicles have running boards and no doors. The van on the left has wooden spokes on the wheels. Both vans have spare tyres attached to their sides. A woman, dressed in black, is standing beside the van on the right. She has one foot on the running board.
