HISTORYThis is the jetty at Hastings in the Western Port. The early bay fishermen traditionally divided their time between mesh netting and seine netting, together with oystering in the open season. Seining was done from the beach or a mud bank.
DESCRIPTIONThis photo of a jetty and boats has been taken from the shore. The wooden jetty has rail tracks down the middle and a small crane at the end. Several fishing boats are tied to the jetty. Fishing nets are handing over the side of the jetty. Three of the boats have a man on board. Another man is leaning over the jetty rail.
