HISTORY

The building of the Dalek was a project by 13 year old schoolboy Ian Cummins of Bittern and Mr Arthur Woodley. Detailed plans were sent to Ian from the BBC in London and the project took about nine months to complete. The Dalek featured in the Hastings Day Parade in 1985 and won a prize. A photo of Ian and the Dalek appeared on the front page of the Hastings Independent Newspaper on Tuesday, 19 February, 1985. The photo showing the Dalek in the back of the station wagon was taken at Woolley’s Road, Bittern where Ian lived. During the parade, Ian walked inside the Dalek operating the flashing lights, arms and ‘eye stalk’ in true Dr Who style.

DESCRIPTION

These three images show Dr Who’s Dalek standing on a footpath, being loaded into the back of a yellow station wagon and leading a street parade, followed by a pipe band.
