HISTORY

This building was the Hastings Hosiery Mills, commonly known as The Sock Factory. It was built in 1946 by Mr P.J. Gaskin. The building was situated at the corner of Victoria and Church Streets, Hastings. This is the current site of the Coles Supermarket loading bay. In June 1954 an acetylene gas cylinder exploded resulting in a portion of the brick wall collapsing and the roof caving in. The factory was rebuilt and continued until 1965.
