HISTORY

This aerial photograph of Hastings shows the land before the BHP steelworks were built. In 1965 the first plans were formulated for the development of a steel mill at Hastings. In 1967 a Joint Venture Committee was formed to develop the steelworks. The first site works commenced in 1970 and production commenced in 1972. The island is Sandstone Island.

DESCRIPTION

This aerial photograph shows a large body water with an island on the right-hand side. Land juts out into the water on the left-hand side and at the bottom of the image. A township, jetty, boats and streets can be seen at the bottom of the image. Street, paddocks and trees can be seen on the left-hand side. The printers details are printed along the fat right-hand side.
