HISTORY

This photograph is taken around the Long Island area. The pipeline pumped gas between Esso at Hastings and the BP Refinery at Crib Point and onto the ships. It was a singular pipeline. When no longer required, the pipeline was cleaned out and filled with water for future use.

DESCRIPTION

This image shows part of a pipe half buried in a trench. Piles of dirt are in the foreground. Two lines of trees can be seen in the background. The following is typed in black on a piece of white paper and taped to the bottom of the photograph: ‘Gas Pipeline Construction BP - Esso.’.
