HISTORYThis photograph is taken around the Long Island area. The pipeline pumped gas between Esso at Hastings and the BP Refinery at Crib Point and onto the ships. It was a singular pipeline. When no longer required, the pipeline was cleaned out and filled with water for future use.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows part of a pipe half buried in a trench. Piles of dirt are in the foreground. Two lines of trees can be seen in the background. The following is typed in black on a piece of white paper and taped to the bottom of the photograph: ‘Gas Pipeline Construction BP - Esso.’.
