HISTORY

This couple is Jack and Norma Babington. They were married in 1947 and owned a hardware and grocery store. In 1958 they built the first self-service hardware and grocery store on the corner of High and King Streets, Hastings. It was the first of its kind on the Western Port side of the Mornington Peninsula. Jack was elected as a Councillor for the Hastings Shire Council in 1960, a position he held until his retirement in 1989. This term of office included three as Shire President. The Jack Babington Park is situated on the foreshore in Hastings.
