HISTORYDr Haywood was born in Caulfield in 1895. He spent his teenage years fishing, farming and doing local work. He then went to college in Melbourne and worked his way through medical school. He returned to Hastings in 1928 and worked as a general practitioner. He was instrumental in founding the Hastings District Bush Nursing Hospital. This photograph comes courtesy of The Bays Hospital in Mornington.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows the inscription of a plaque. It reads as follows:”In Dedication to Arthur Robert Haywood M.M.B.S. First Hastings Doctor and Founder of Hastings & District Bush Nursing Hospital (inc.) Established 1932 1895 - 1981”.
