HISTORYThis is the site of BHP. Development of the site commenced in 1970 with production starting in 1973. In 1979 BHP purchased John Lysaght, Australia and in 2001 they merged with Billiton Pty Ltd. In 2003 the company adopted its new name of BlueScope Steel. The following is written on the back of the photograph in blue ink: “Early view of Esso B.H.P. Long Island”. The B.P. Refinery can be seen in the distance at Crib Point.
DESCRIPTIONThe centre of this aerial photograph shows a large industrial plant. Large tanks, buildings, cranes and motor vehicles can be seen. Land is in the foreground and water and more land in the background. Another industrial site can be seen in the distance.
