HISTORYThe older woman is Harriet Gold. She was born Harriet Hall in Norwich, England and married George Smith in 1874 in England. He died in 1895. Harriet married Frank Gold (also known as John Wilkinson) in Melbourne. Harriet took an active interest in the development of Hastings Hospital. She was the first President of the Hastings and District Bush Nursing Hospital Auxiliary. She raised funds for the hospital hosting a variety of social occasions. She established the ‘Younger Set’, which these girls belonged to. They held dances and balls over the years. Harriet was well known for her charity work and was chauffeur driven in a Rolls Royce Silver Ghost. She died in 1948 aged 92.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a group of fifteen young women, two flower girls and a older woman sitting and standing in three rows, posing for a photo.
