HISTORYThis house was built by George Hobden for his bride Ann Kearns, in 1880. George was born in 1845 and died in 1892. He was eighteen years older than Ann. When he died, Ann married Abraham Smith and the house became The Smith Residence.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a timber house with an iron roof. A group of fourteen men, women and children standing in the front garden, all looking at the camera. The house has a double gable roof and a verandah at the front. Everyone is well dressed and all are wearing hats. The following is typed on a piece of paper and attached to the bottom of the image: “Number 6 Skinner St. Hastings is this house built in the 1880’s by George Hobden for his bride Ann Kearns. At the time of its erection there were four thatched roof houses in Hastings, one of which is the Barclay home in Bayview Road. The present owner is Mr Fred Smith.”.
