HISTORY

The Hastings Cool Stores was one of several in the area which serviced the local fruit growers, who brought their apples and pears to be stored, packed and sold locally, interstate and abroad. The Co-Operative was established in 1920, but by the 1970s local growers were not making enough return to make their work viable, and most sold out, with orchards bulldozed and land sold for development. The Co-Operative became unviable, and the building was demolished in 1973. It had been built on land leased from the Victorian Railways, in Cool Store Road in Hastings.
