HISTORYThe Armstrong Gun was recovered and restored by local historians. It is now on display in the Hastings-Western Port Museum. The gun is the only complete 1862 model known to exist. The gun was found in the Colac Botanical Gardens in 1983 and returned to Hastings late 1987 and restoration was complete by 1994. This gun was one of four, 40 pound guns that came to Hastings c. 1980 because of a perceived Russian threat to “take Melbourne by landing a force via the Western Port”. One image shows Mike Hendrickson of Cumberland Carriage Co in New South Wales delivering one of the wheels to Jim and Len Harris’s workshop at Tyabb.
