HISTORYThis is the Royal Hotel, c. 1890. It is on the corner of High Street and Salmon Street in Hastings. It is now called the Western Port Hotel. It is the oldest surviving hotel in Hastings. This double story hotel should not be confused with the early Western Port Hotel which was built before 1869. This hotel was situated in what is now Marine Parade, near Hodgins Road in Hastings.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows the front of the a hotel taken from the street. “Royal Hotel” is in large letters across the front of the building. Two chimneys are on the tiled roof on the top section of the hotel. A sign reading “Royal Hotel Bottle Dept” is above one of the four doors. A motor car with the number plate “GWW:047” is parked in front of the hotel. A used furniture store is on the corner along from the hotel.
