HISTORY

(Henry Gomm, fisherman, donated land for the Mechanics Institute and Church of England in Mornington before he settled in Somerville in 1866), the building was opened with a gala concert on New Years Eve 1885. It cost about 900 pounds to build, which was raised by public subscriptions. These buildings were a meeting place and centre of social activity eg libraries
