HISTORY

In 1892, fifteen of the Mornington Football Team drowned whilst returning from a match at Mordialloc. Of the
1600 pounds raised, 75 pounds was used to erect this memorial. Those drowned were Charles Hooper 35, Charles F. Hooper Jnr 14, John Comber 31, James Reid Caldwell 21, William Lindsay Caldwell 19, Hugh Caldwell 17, Charles Ernest Allchin 19, William Grover 25, William Grover 17, James Firth 17, Charles Williams 23, Alfred Herbert Lawrence 19, John Kenna 18, William Coles 23 and George Connor Milne 38.
