HISTORY

In 1843 Alexander Beatson Balcombe took over the property named ‘Checkinkurk’ and changed the name to
‘The Briars’ after his birthplace which was on the island of St Helena, he had previously married Emma Juana a daughter of Dr David Reid of Inverary Park, they had two sons and five daughters, in 1975 the sons of the late Elizabeth Claire a’beckett, who was the great- grand daughter of A.B. Balcombe, made a generous gift of the homestead and surrounding acres to the Shire of Mornington and the National Trust
