HISTORY

In 1843 Alexander Beatson Balcombe took over the ‘run’ named ‘Checkinkurk’ and changed the name of the property to ‘The Briars’, after his birthplace which was on the island of St Helena, in 1975 the sons of the late Elizabeth Claire a’beckett, who was the great grand-daughter of A.B. Balcombe made a generous gift of the homestead and surrounding acres to the Shire of Mornington and The National Trust
