HISTORY

The first Post Office was opened in 1861, and this building erected 1863-64, coinciding with the provision of the electric telegraph services in the town, a telephone exchange was installed there in 1905; in the 1960’s the
Post Office moved further up the Main Street and the Mornington and District Historical Society retained the building which is now known as the Old Post Office Museum
