HISTORYThe ‘Hygiea’ one of several excursion paddle steamers which regularly visited Mornington pier and around the Bay ‘The arrival of the boat at the pier’ was a great event greeted by a large crowd of townsfolk and eagerly awaited by the drivers of wagonettes and cabs from the hotels and guest houses
Mr Ernie Swift and Mr George Parsons were the owners of horsedrawn vehicles who regularly met the ‘boat’
The image taken from the bluff near the old Baths, shows the 'Hygeia' steaming into the harbour
